Assassing

... was Marillion's fifth single. It was the opening track and the second single from their second album, Fugazi. It spent five weeks on the UK charts, peaking at No. 22.

Marillion's next single, Kayleigh, was their biggest hit. Entering the charts on 18 May 1985, it reached No. 2 and was kept off the No. 1 spot only by the charity single You'll Never Walk Alone. This was recorded on the initiative of Gerry Marsden (of Gerry & the Pacemakers), in aid of the families of victims of the Bradford City fire disaster, which had occurred seven days earlier. It was credited to The Crowd, and involved a galaxy of stars including Bruce Forsyth, Tony Christie, Rick Wakeman, John Conteh, Rolf Harris, Keith Chegwin, Zak Starkey, Peter Cook, John Entwistle, Motörhead, and Phil Lynott.
